Rebellion of 1857

The Rebellion of 1857, also known as the Indian Mutiny or First War of Independence, was a large-scale uprising against British rule in India. It was sparked by various issues, including cultural insensitivity (like the new rifle cartridges rumored to be greased with cow and pig fat) and widespread dissatisfaction among Indian soldiers and civilians. The rebellion involved soldiers, peasants, and nobles fighting to end British dominance. Although it was eventually suppressed, it marked a significant turning point, inspiring future movements for Indian independence and leading to drastic changes in how Britain administered India.
