Rebellion of 1798
The Rebellion of 1798 was an uprising in Ireland led by groups advocating for independence from British rule and reform of the political system. Influenced by revolutionary ideas from France and America, rebels sought to end religious discrimination and establish an Irish republic. Although quickly suppressed, the rebellion highlighted widespread dissatisfaction with British control, fostering future movements for Irish independence. It also led to the enactment of the Act of Union in 1801, which unified Ireland and Great Britain under a single Parliament.
