real ID
A Real ID is a driver’s license or identification card that meets new federal security standards established to enhance security and prevent identity fraud. Starting from May 7, 2025, a Real ID or acceptable alternative (like a passport) will be required for domestic flights and accessing secure federal facilities. To get a Real ID, you’ll need to provide proof of identity, Social Security number, and residency. It looks similar to a standard license but includes enhanced security features, making it harder to forge or use fraudulently, thereby improving overall safety.
