Real Audiencia

Real Audiencia was a colonial judicial institution established by Spain in its overseas territories, particularly in Latin America. It served as a high court of appeals and administrative authority, overseeing local governance, justice, and sovereignty issues. The Audiencia operated as both a judicial body, handling legal cases, and an advisory council for the Crown. It was headed by a judge called an "Oidor" and often collaborated with the local governor or viceroy. Essentially, it was a key institution for implementing Spanish law and maintaining order in the colonies, functioning as a bridge between the colonial administration and the Spanish monarchy.
