Rational Expressions
A rational expression is a mathematical phrase that involves dividing one algebraic expression by another, similar to a fraction. For example, \(\frac{3x+2}{x-5}\) is rational because it’s a numerator divided by a denominator, both of which can be algebraic expressions. These are used to represent relationships where one quantity depends on another, often in complex calculations. Just like fractions in basic math, rational expressions can be simplified, combined, or analyzed, but they also require attention to values that make the denominator zero, as division by zero is undefined.
