Raster Charts

Raster charts are digital maps created from scanned images of traditional paper charts. They display geographic information as a grid of pixels, representing details like coastlines, depths, and navigational aids. Used mainly in marine navigation, they provide detailed visuals based on pre-existing charts, allowing users to view accurate, detailed maritime information. While easy to use and familiar, raster charts lack the scalability and zoom flexibility of vector charts, as enlarging them can reduce image quality. They serve as reliable tools for navigation but are often supplemented with updated data for safety and precision.
