Ras proteins

Ras proteins are small molecular switches inside our cells that help control cell growth, division, and survival. They are activated when they receive signals from outside the cell, then send messages that trigger specific actions. When functioning properly, Ras ensures normal cell behavior. However, mutations or changes in Ras can cause it to become permanently active, leading to uncontrolled cell growth, which is a common factor in many cancers. Researchers study Ras to understand tumor development and develop targeted treatments to block its abnormal activity.
