Rapid Sequence Intubation Protocol

Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI) is a medical procedure used to quickly secure a patient’s airway, usually in emergency situations. It involves three main steps: administering medications to rapidly sedate and relax the patient, then inserting a breathing tube through the mouth into the windpipe (intubation). This process minimizes the risk of harmful reactions like coughing or vomiting during tube placement. RSI is performed by trained healthcare providers to ensure a safe, controlled, and efficient way to help patients breathe when they cannot do so on their own.
