Rana Dynasty

The Rana Dynasty was a family of prime ministers in Nepal who ruled the country from the mid-19th century to the mid-20th century. They held significant power, often controlling the government without being monarchs themselves, and kept the monarchy mostly as figureheads. Their rule was marked by centralized authority, limited political freedoms, and a focus on maintaining their family's dominance. The Ranas preserved isolationist policies and were criticized for neglecting modernization and people's rights. Their dominance ended in 1951 when a popular movement led to the restoration of full democracy and the end of their control.
