Rana catesbeiana
Rana catesbeiana, commonly known as the American bullfrog, is a large freshwater amphibian native to North America. Recognizable by its sizable body, round tympanum (ear) and distinctive deep, resonant calls, it thrives in ponds, lakes, and wetlands. Bullfrogs are carnivorous, feeding on insects, small fish, birds, and small mammals. They play a key role in their ecosystem but can become invasive outside their native range, impacting local species. Adult bullfrogs are notable for their impressive size—up to 8 inches long—and are often used as a food source or in scientific research.
