Ram Janmabhoomi movement
The Ram Janmabhoomi movement is a socio-political effort in India advocating for the construction of a Hindu temple at the believed birthplace of Lord Rama in Ayodhya. Historically, there was a mosque called Babri Masjid at the site, which was demolished in 1992 by kar sevaks, sparking widespread communal tensions. The movement emerged from longstanding religious and cultural sentiments, asserting the site’s significance in Hindu tradition. Its culmination was the Supreme Court ruling in 2019, granting the land for the temple’s construction while directing land for a mosque elsewhere, aiming to address religious sensitivities and promote social harmony.
