Railtrack
Railtrack was the company responsible for owning and maintaining the UK's main railway infrastructure, including tracks, signals, and stations, from 1994 until 2002. It was created during the privatization of British Rail to separate infrastructure management from train operations. Railtrack's role was to ensure the safety and reliability of the railway network, but it faced criticism for its maintenance standards, which contributed to railway accidents like the Hatfield crash. Due to safety concerns and financial problems, Railtrack was eventually restructured, with its functions taken over by the publicly owned company Network Rail.
