RAI Treatment
RAI treatment, or radioactive iodine therapy, is a procedure used mainly for thyroid conditions like cancer or overactive thyroid. It involves taking a small amount of radioactive iodine orally, which the thyroid gland naturally absorbs. The radioactivity selectively targets and destroys overactive or cancerous thyroid cells while minimizing damage to surrounding tissues. The treatment usually requires minimal preparation and is done on an outpatient basis. Patients may need to follow specific precautions afterward to limit radiation exposure to others. It’s an effective, targeted therapy that often helps manage or eliminate thyroid disease with a relatively simple procedure.
