RAG Deficiency
RAG deficiency refers to the absence or malfunction of RAG proteins, which are essential for the development of a functional immune system. These proteins help immune cells called lymphocytes (B cells and T cells) create diverse receptors to recognize many different pathogens. Without proper RAG function, the body can't produce a healthy, diverse supply of these immune cells, leading to severe immune deficiency. This condition makes individuals highly susceptible to infections because their immune system cannot effectively identify or respond to invaders.
