Rafael Cancel Miranda

Rafael Cancel Miranda was a Puerto Rican nationalist and activist who fought for Puerto Rican independence from U.S. control. In 1954, he participated in an armed attack on the U.S. Congress with others from the Puerto Rican Nationalist Party, aiming to promote independence and oppose U.S. policies. He was convicted of attempted murder and served many years in prison, but his actions were seen by supporters as part of a struggle for independence. Cancel Miranda later became a vocal advocate for Puerto Rican sovereignty, emphasizing cultural pride and political self-determination.
