Rafael Bombelli

Rafael Bombelli (1526–1572) was an influential Italian mathematician best known for his work on complex numbers. In his book *Algebra*, he systematically developed methods to understand solutions involving square roots of negative numbers, which were previously considered imaginary or meaningless. His pioneering efforts laid important groundwork for modern complex number theory. Bombelli's clear explanations and innovative approach helped mathematicians accept and work with complex numbers, advancing algebra significantly during the Renaissance period.
