RAE (Research Assessment Exercise)

The Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) was a UK system used to evaluate the quality and impact of research conducted by universities and research institutions. Conducted periodically, it involved experts reviewing submissions of research outputs, such as publications and projects, to assess their excellence and significance. The results influenced government funding, helping to allocate resources to institutions producing high-quality research. Although replaced by the Research Excellence Framework (REF) in 2014, RAE played a key role in maintaining research standards and transparency across UK higher education.
