radio frequency interference
Radio frequency interference (RFI) occurs when unwanted signals disrupt or distort the normal operation of radio, television, or wireless devices. This happens when different electronic devices emit signals on similar frequencies, causing overlapping signals that can reduce clarity or block communication entirely. RFI can originate from natural sources like lightning, or man-made sources such as other electronic equipment, appliances, or industrial machinery. To minimize RFI, engineers design devices with shielding and filtering, but complete prevention can be challenging, especially in areas with many electronic devices competing for the same radio spectrum.
