Radical Cystectomy

Radical cystectomy is a surgical procedure used to treat bladder cancer, involving the removal of the entire bladder and surrounding tissues. Depending on the patient, nearby lymph nodes and parts of nearby organs such as the prostate in men or the uterus and ovaries in women may also be removed. After removal, the surgeon creates a new way for urine to leave the body, often by linking the kidneys to an opening on the abdomen (urostomy) or constructing a new bladder from intestinal tissue. This surgery aims to remove all cancerous tissue and improve the patient's quality of life.
