Radical Chic

"Radical Chic" refers to the phenomenon where wealthy or privileged individuals express support for radical political causes, often through social events or displays that blend high society with activism. Coined by journalist Tom Wolfe in 1970, it highlights how some affluent people host parties or conduct gestures to appear socially conscious, sometimes superficially aligning with revolutionary or progressive ideas. The term critiques how privilege can distort or commercialize genuine political movements, turning activism into a fashionable or status-driven activity rather than a sincere effort for change.
