Radiation Therapy in Laryngeal Cancer

Radiation therapy for laryngeal cancer involves using high-energy rays, similar to X-rays, to target and kill cancer cells in the voice box (larynx). It can be used as a primary treatment to shrink tumors, or after surgery to eliminate remaining cancer. The treatment may be delivered externally, from a machine outside the body, or internally through a small radioactive source placed near the tumor. Radiation therapy aims to preserve as much healthy tissue as possible while effectively treating the cancer, and it often involves multiple sessions over several weeks, with potential side effects like sore throat or difficulty swallowing.
