Radcliffe College (historically associated with Harvard University)

Radcliffe College was a historically women’s college in Cambridge, Massachusetts, founded in 1879 as the “Harvard Annex” to provide women with higher education opportunities. It operated independently for much of its history but was closely linked to Harvard University, sharing resources and academic programs. In 1999, Radcliffe formally merged with Harvard, becoming the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, a graduate-level research institute. Radcliffe played a key role in advancing women’s education and increasing women’s participation in academia, leaving a lasting legacy as a pioneer in higher education for women.
