Rack space

Rack space refers to the physical area within a data center's server racks where servers, storage devices, and networking equipment are installed. Think of it as designated “slots” or “shelves” in a large organized cabinet used to house and organize the hardware that runs applications and stores data. Each rack has a specific number of units (measured in "rack units" or "U"), providing a standardized way to plan and optimize space. Proper management of rack space ensures efficient use of physical resources, helps maintain airflow and cooling, and simplifies maintenance and scalability.
