Raccoon Bat (Plecotus auritus)

The Raccoon Bat, scientifically known as Plecotus auritus, is a small, grayish-brown bat distinguished by its large, furry ears that resemble those of a raccoon, hence the name. It is a nocturnal creature found across parts of Europe and Asia, primarily feasting on insects like moths and beetles. The bat uses echolocation—a form of sonar—to navigate and hunt in darkness. It roosts during the day in tree hollows, caves, or buildings. Despite its name, it is not related to raccoons but gets its nickname from its facial appearance, which hints at raccoon's facial markings.
