Rabbi Moshe Isserles

Rabbi Moshe Isserles (1520–1572), also known as the "Rema," was a leading Jewish scholar and halakhic (Jewish legal) authority from Poland. He is best known for his significant commentary on the Shulchan Aruch, a key Jewish legal code compiled by Rabbi Joseph Caro. Isserles's notes, called "HaMapah," complement Caro’s work, ensuring it reflects Ashkenazi customs and practices. His insights helped unify Jewish law across different communities, making his contributions foundational for contemporary halakhic practice and emphasizing the importance of tradition and legal precision within Judaism.
