Rōmaji

Rōmaji is the system of writing Japanese words using the Latin alphabet (the letters used in English). It allows people unfamiliar with Japanese characters (hiragana, katakana, and kanji) to read, pronounce, and learn basic Japanese words. Rōmaji is often used for learning pronunciation, in textbooks, signage, and input methods for typing Japanese on computers and phones. While it helps with accessibility and communication for non-Japanese speakers, it is not a replacement for the traditional Japanese scripts, which are used in everyday writing and formal contexts.
