Quintus Fabius Maximus was a Roman general and statesman known for his strategic patience during the Second Punic War (218-201 BC) against Carthage. Instead of confronting Hannibal's army head-on, he adopted a cautious "delaying tactics," avoiding large battles and wearing down the enemy over time. This approach earned him the nickname "Cunctator," meaning "The Delayer." His methods helped Rome survive difficult periods and ultimately contributed to Hannibal's defeat. Though initially unpopular, Fabius's strategies proved effective, showcasing his skill as a prudent and adaptable leader.
