Quincke's aspiration technique
Quincke's aspiration technique is a medical method used to obtain a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) sample from the lower back. The patient is positioned to expose the lower spine, and a needle is carefully inserted into the subarachnoid space of the lumbar region. Once the needle is correctly placed, gentle aspiration (pulling back on the syringe) collects CSF for analysis. This technique helps diagnose conditions like infections, bleeding, or neurological disorders by examining the fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord. It requires precision and knowledge of anatomy to minimize risks and ensure accurate sampling.
