Queen Selection Process
The queen selection process in honeybees involves the colony’s need for a new queen, often triggered by the old queen’s decline or swarming. Worker bees select a few young larvae and feed them a special diet called royal jelly, which causes them to develop into queens. Among these, the larva that grows fastest and most successfully emerges as the new queen. This process ensures the colony’s continuity, with the newly mated queen beginning egg-laying and sustaining the hive’s population.
