Quantum General Relativity
Quantum General Relativity aims to unify Einstein's theory of gravity with quantum mechanics. While general relativity describes gravity as the curvature of spacetime caused by mass and energy, quantum mechanics governs the behavior of particles at very small scales. The challenge is to create a framework where gravity is quantized, meaning it has discrete, particle-like aspects called gravitons. This goal seeks a consistent theory that explains phenomena where both gravity and quantum effects are important, such as inside black holes or the beginning of the universe. Achieving this unification remains a major open problem in theoretical physics.
