Qualified Majority Voting
Qualified Majority Voting (QMV) is a decision-making process used by the European Union where a proposal is approved if it gains enough support from member countries. Instead of requiring unanimity, QMV sets specific thresholds—such as a certain percentage of countries and population size—that must be met for a decision to pass. This method balances the influence of larger and smaller states, allowing the EU to make efficient decisions while ensuring broader member participation. It helps prevent deadlocks, enabling the union to act more smoothly on various policies.
