Quadratic Formula

The quadratic formula is a mathematical tool used to find the solutions of quadratic equations, which are equations where the highest power of the variable is two (like ax² + bx + c = 0). It provides a way to calculate the values of the variable (x) directly, by plugging the coefficients (a, b, and c) into the formula: x = [-b ± √(b² - 4ac)] / 2a. The part under the square root, called the discriminant, determines whether the solutions are real or imaginary. This formula is essential for solving quadratics that cannot be factored easily.
