Pythagorean Expectation

Pythagorean Expectation is a way to estimate a sports team's likely winning percentage based on the number of runs or points they score and allow. It uses a mathematical formula similar to the Pythagorean theorem in geometry, applying an exponent to these totals to predict how often a team should win. Essentially, it predicts a team's success by comparing offensive strength (runs scored) to defensive strength (runs allowed). If a team's actual winning percentage differs significantly from the expectation, it may suggest they are performing better or worse than expected based on their overall scoring, indicating underlying factors like luck or skill.
