Pyrrho of Elis
Pyrrho of Elis was an ancient Greek philosopher, considered the founder of Skepticism. He believed that since human senses and reasoning can be unreliable, we can never know the true nature of reality or reach certain knowledge. As a result, he advocated for constant questioning and suspension of judgment to achieve mental tranquility. Essentially, Pyrrho encouraged us to recognize our limits in understanding and live calmly without dogmatic beliefs. His ideas influenced later philosophies emphasizing doubt, open-mindedness, and the importance of inner peace.
