Pyramidal tract
The pyramidal tract is a bundle of nerve fibers in the brain and spinal cord responsible for voluntary movements, especially of the limbs and face. Originating in specific areas of the brain called the motor cortex, these fibers travel down through the brainstem and spinal cord, where they connect with motor neurons that activate muscles. Think of it as a direct communication pathway that sends intentional movement commands from the brain to the body. Proper functioning of this tract allows precise, coordinated movements, while damage can result in weakness, paralysis, or loss of fine motor skills.
