Pygmy people

Pygmy people are various indigenous groups in Central Africa characterized by their short stature, typically under 150 cm (about 4’11”). They have distinct cultures, languages, and lifestyles closely tied to forest environments. Predominantly hunter-gatherers, they rely on tracking, foraging, and fishing. Pygmies have historically faced social marginalization and challenges related to land rights and representation. Their unique genetic makeup and adaptive traits offer valuable insights into human evolution. Despite modern influences, many Pygmy communities maintain traditional practices, preserving their cultural heritage while navigating contemporary social and economic changes.
