Puumala virus
Puumala virus is a pathogen transmitted primarily through contact with contaminated mouse droppings or saliva, especially from the bank vole, its main carrier. It can cause a mild to severe illness called hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS), which involves symptoms like fever, headache, back pain, and kidney problems. The virus is primarily found in parts of Europe, and infection occurs when people accidentally come into contact with rodent waste in rural or outdoor environments. Prevention involves avoiding areas with rodent infestations and maintaining good hygiene to reduce the risk of transmission.
