Purse Seining
Purse seining is a method used to catch large schooling fish, such as sardines or anchovies. It involves deploying a large, cylindrical net around a school of fish from a boat. Once the fish are encircled, the bottom of the net is pulled tight, sort of like drawing a purse closed, trapping the fish inside. The net is then hauled back onto the boat, allowing fish to be collected efficiently. This technique is widely used in commercial fishing to harvest substantial quantities of fish quickly, but it requires careful management to minimize environmental impact.
