Purse seine fishing is a method used to catch large schools of fish, such as tuna or sardines. A large net, called a purse seine, is deployed around a school of fish from a boat. The bottom of the net is then pulled tight like a drawstring purse, trapping the fish inside. The net is lifted out of the water with the fish, which are then brought onboard for processing. This technique is efficient for catching many fish at once but requires careful management to minimize bycatch and environmental impacts.
