Purkinje fibers

Purkinje fibers are specialized muscle fibers in the heart that help coordinate the heart's contractions. They are part of the heart's electrical conduction system, transmitting electrical signals rapidly from the atrioventricular (AV) node to the ventricles. This ensures that the ventricles contract in a coordinated manner, efficiently pumping blood out of the heart. Located just beneath the inner lining of the ventricles, Purkinje fibers enable the heart to beat in a synchronized and effective way, essential for maintaining a steady and strong heartbeat.
