Purkinje Cell Degeneration

Purkinje Cell Degeneration is a condition where the Purkinje cells, specialized nerve cells in the brain’s cerebellum responsible for coordinating movement, gradually deteriorate or die. This leads to problems with balance, coordination, and fine motor skills. It can be inherited or result from other causes like disease or toxins. As the Purkinje cells degenerate, individuals may experience difficulty walking, tremors, or unsteady movements. The progression varies depending on the underlying cause, but it ultimately impairs the cerebellum's ability to regulate muscle activity, affecting smooth and precise movements.
