PUREX method

The PUREX (Plutonium-Uranium Extraction) method is a chemical process used to separate usable nuclear materials—mainly uranium and plutonium—from spent nuclear fuel. The process involves dissolving spent fuel in acid, then using a series of chemical solvents that selectively bind to and extract these valuable elements.
