Purchase Treaty

The Purchase Treaty, also known as the Adams-Onís Treaty, was an agreement between the United States and Spain in 1819. It allowed the U.S. to acquire Florida from Spain for $5 million. The treaty aimed to resolve border disputes and reduce tensions over territorial claims in North America. By purchasing Florida, the U.S. expanded its territory and gained control over an area that was seen as strategically important, helping to prevent conflicts with Native American tribes and European powers in the region. This agreement ultimately contributed to the westward expansion of the United States.
