Pupils are the black circular openings in the center of your eyes that allow light to enter. They control the amount of light reaching the retina, the light-sensitive layer at the back of your eye. The size of the pupils adjusts automatically: they become larger in dim lighting to let in more light and smaller in bright light to reduce glare. This reflex helps you see clearly across different environments. Pupils also play a role in communication, as their size can change due to emotions or focus.
