Punjab Reorganization Act

The Punjab Reorganization Act, enacted in 1966, was a law by the Indian government to reorganize the state of Punjab. Its main purpose was to create a separate state called Haryana, mainly for Hindi-speaking people, and to transfer some parts of Punjab, including the Chandigarh region, to this new state. This was done to address linguistic and regional differences, ensuring better governance and cultural identity for different groups. The act helped streamline administrative boundaries, reflecting the diverse linguistic and cultural landscape of the region.
