Puna

Puna is a geographic region in the high-altitude plains of the central Andes, primarily in Peru and northern Chile. It is characterized by vast, open landscapes with volcanic terrain, high elevations (around 3,200 to 4,800 meters or 10,500 to 15,700 feet above sea level), and a cool, semi-arid climate. The region is notable for its unique ecosystems, traditional agriculture such as potato and quinoa farming, and indigenous cultures. Puna’s environment influences its biodiversity, economy, and ways of life, making it a distinctive highland zone within South America’s Andes mountain range.
