Pulmonary Thromboembolism

Pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) occurs when a blood clot forms in a vein, usually in the legs, and travels to the lungs, blocking a blood vessel. This can cause serious breathing problems and reduce blood flow to the heart. In critical care medicine, prompt diagnosis and treatment are essential to prevent severe complications or death. Symptoms may include sudden shortness of breath, chest pain, and coughing up blood. Management often involves medications to dissolve the clot or prevent further clots and close monitoring of the patient's condition.
