Pulmonary embolism response teams (PERTs)
Pulmonary embolism response teams (PERTs) are specialized groups of healthcare providers who quickly collaborate when a patient has a pulmonary embolism— a blood clot blocking a lung artery. They consist of experts like pulmonologists, cardiologists, emergency doctors, and sometimes surgeons. PERTs assess the severity of the clot and coordinate rapid treatment, which can include blood thinners, clot removal, or other interventions. Their goal is to improve patient outcomes by delivering prompt, expert care tailored to each situation, reducing the risk of serious complications or death.
