Puerto Rico Trench

The Puerto Rico Trench is the deepest part of the Atlantic Ocean's floor, located north of Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. It is a tectonic boundary where the North American Plate is converging with the Caribbean Plate, causing intense geological activity. The trench reaches depths of about 8,000 meters (26,200 feet), making it one of the deepest oceanic trenches. It is significant for understanding earthquake and tsunami risks in the region, as tectonic movements and underwater faults in the trench can generate seismic events affecting nearby islands and coastal areas.
