Public Law 75-718
Public Law 75-718, enacted in 1938, established the Federal Power Commission (FPC), which was responsible for regulating interstate electric power and natural gas industries. It aimed to ensure fair rates, reliable service, and proper development of electric and gas resources across state lines. The law also authorized the Commission to oversee licensing and compliance, promoting a balanced approach between industry growth and consumer protection. This legislation laid the groundwork for federal regulatory oversight of utility services, and in 1977, it was succeeded by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), which continues to regulate these industries today.
